This months outing was to the local Estate of Lourensford.
Steve Birch from his company "Cape Floral Kingdom Vineyard Tours" and his colleagues Cecilia and Andreas took club members
on a wonderful tour around this huge estate.
After the devastating fires a few months ago which swept through a lot of the forested and fynbos areas on local mountains, we didn't expect to see much.
But to our amazement, the rejuvenation taking place already was incredible to see.
Fynbos was already recovering and bulbs were starting to push up through the soil. There were even a few in flower!
Steve told us about the old elephant trail - also used by the San, which winds its way through, up and over the Helderberg
Mountains.
He also picked out Quagga spore - there are at least 3 in the area. And of course, the views - of mountains, streams, vineyards, olive trees - are all absolutely spectacular!
The weather was very atmospheric - the sky being loaded with storm clouds - which held their rain just long enough - until after the tour - then the heavens then OPENED! Wow - did it rain!?
A huge thankyou to Steve, Cecilia and Andreas for their entertaining stories and knowledge of this area. A VERY special day!
