In the Spring months of 2007, the Stellenbosch Horticultural Society has helped to transform the gardens of the Bergzicht Training Centre.
In central Stellenbosch, the Bergzicht centre provides training for adults, mostly women, with a view to providing them with employment at the end of their training.
It is a leading South African NGO with a proud history. Bergzicht has already trained more than 9 000 students – and secured permanent employment for more than 85% of these through its own Employment Bureau.
Our club worked with Bergzicht staff to plan the changes, check that the irrigation was working(!) and sponsored a local landscape gardening company to implement the changes.
Green Card Landscaping dug new flower beds, moved and divided many plants and transplated others. They also composted the beds in preparation for new plants.

Students, local residents, tourists and staff can now enjoy their free-time in this wonderful green space in central Stellenbosch.
Note - there is also a small restaurant and coffee shop where you can support Bergzicht - enjoy a cup of tea or a bite to
eat - whilst enjoying the newly renovated garden!
